Leica Monochrome: Development of a Legend in Monochrome Imaging

Loved by professionals, the first Leica Monochrome, based on the Leica M9 body had many of the same issues Leica M8 and M9 lovers cherished with their M systems and regarded as a purist very nature, namely, a small 2.5” rear lcd screen, small shooting buffer and slow processing of raw files. The first monochrome, just like the M9 would receive many improvements, especially, in terms of speed and buffer size and resulted in the 2015 new Leica Monochrome Type 264.

Leica Monochrome Type 264 and Leica’s shift to CMOS with Leica Type 240 created a large body of debate among professional and Leica lovers about CCD and CMOS differences in Leica colour. As it is well known, many argue that it is the CCD that, in many ways, gives the Leica tone we all love in the classic images rendered by M8 and M9.  Bearing that discussion in mind, it is also important to take note of the wealth of resources on the Internet that speaks in great favour of Leica M Type 240 and M10  image quality.
